Michele Motiscause | Missed Calls Series | 2018
Missed Calls is a state of mind. It’s a need to listen to your inner voice, the one we often ignore because we think it suggests change or other situations outside of our comfort zone; these are inner voices that prod us to remember truths that we don’t always want to face. Sometimes, these voices indicate a new direction, and this is the case with Moticause, the ideas are developed within the new painting series. Their strength is in the mark making, sometimes visibly disorderly whilst always searching for equilibrium. The vivid colours have nothing casual about them; the artist works through painting and drawings achieving a conscious technique and a decisive stroke. The turmoil of the stroke wants to be a quote of the abstract art of the ’50 and ’60 (Emilio Vedova, Franz Kline, Alberto Burri); the strength of the coloured parts contains, dominates and intersects with the different geometrical figures. The arrival point is in the intensity of a constant research towards new aesthetic registers.
